Jon Gruden is back, kind of.
Former Raiders coach Jon Gruden has reunited with his old quarterback. Gruden is now assisting new quarterback Derek Carr during the New Orleans Saints’ offseason workouts as they install their offense. The Saints brought in Gruden to aid Carr and his offensive coaching staff under coach Dennis Allen. Gruden has been with the Saints this week to help build the offense around quarterback Derek Carr, Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune reports.

After spending his entire career with the Raiders, Carr was released after the 2022 season. He signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints in March.
With the Raiders, Carr ran the West Coast offense that Gruden installed during his tenure there. The Saints’ version of the West Coast offense is an offshoot of the one former coach Sean Payton used during his 15 seasons as head coach in New Orleans. The Saints signed Carr because of his familiarity with the scheme.
In addition, the Saints also signed two other former Raiders in free agency, wide receiver Bryan Edwards and tight end Foster Moreau.
