Jameson Williams Breaks Silence on Being Suspended: ‘I’m Not a Gambler, I’m a Football Player’
Take a gamble and sometimes you lose. Jameson Williams is now learning that the hard way.
After violating the league’s gambling policy, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will be suspended for the first six games of the season. Williams, a former first-round pick, claimed ignorance of the existence of the rule, and expressed surprise at the punishment.
“I wasn’t aware of this situation,” Williams said, via The Associated Press. “It hit me out the blue,” he said. “And, it hit a couple other players around the league and on my team out the blue.”
He was one of four Lions players suspended for the violation, but he received one of the shorter suspensions.
Jameson Williams says he wasn’t aware of the rule he violated. Says it took him by surprise. But he’s taking it on the chin and moving forward.

While Williams’ rookie season was shortened due to injury, he is still a significant part of the Lions’ future plans, and head coach Dan Campbell remains optimistic about his progress.
Despite the setback, Williams took responsibility for his actions and apologized for violating the policy.
