Nikola Jokic Dropped the Hammer On What Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP Trophy Means

Nikola Jokic keeping it real.

After leading the Denver Nuggets to their first-ever NBA Finals appearance, Nikola Jokic kept it real. The team swept the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of their Western Conference Finals series with Jokic making several game-changing plays.

Despite finishing with a triple-double in the game and being named Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP, Jokic stated that the trophy meant nothing to him.

“For me to be honest, nothing,” Jokic savagely replied.

2:55 mark:

“This trophy is supposed to go to my teammates and coaches,” Jokic said. “They put me in this situation. I’m just first among the equals, and I’m just happy that we are collectively getting wins and getting to make something.”

He acknowledged that his teammates and coaches put him in that position, and he was just the first among equals. This mindset is commendable as Jokic knows that individual glory means nothing compared to winning a title with his team. The Nuggets will now await the winner of the Miami Heat-Boston Celtics Eastern Conference Finals series. Jokic’s humble approach to the game is certainly a reflection of his character.

Even after winning the Western Conference title, Jokic remains a humble guy who eschews trash talk, leaving that to his older brothers.

The Lakers offseason drama is just getting started.
