LeBron James Hints He’s Retiring After Being Swept Out of Playoffs

LeBron James is going out on a low note?

Despite being 38 years old and dealing with a nagging foot injury, LeBron James scored 40 points Monday night. He also played nearly the entire game in the Lakers’ loss to the Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. James, who averaged 28.9 points per game this season, has accomplished about as much as any other player in NBA history. Yet, he hasn’t hinted at retirement until now.

“I got a lot to think about,” James said after the game. “Just personally, with me moving forward with the game of basketball, I got a lot to think about.”

After the game, fans were simply left to interpret LeBron James’ retirement comment. Despite a contract extension last offseason, retirement means sacrificing over $50 million. It also means giving up on his dream of playing alongside his son, Bronny.

LeBron James may also need foot surgery, which could sideline him at the start of next season.

While he is still capable of competing for championships, the Lakers’ disappointing loss and his injury may be contributing to his newfound consideration of retirement.
