Rumor: James Harden Has An ‘Appetite for’ Huge Amount of Money Over Four Years

James Harden is hungry.

Despite his disappointing performance in the 2022-23 season, James Harden’s bank account will not suffer.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there is an NBA-wide interest in Harden landing a four-year contract worth over $200 million. If a non-Sixers team were to sign him, he could receive $201.7 million over four years, while the Sixers are limited to offering him $210.1 million due to contract rules for players aged 38 or older. This puts the Sixers in a disadvantageous position, leaving Harden to consider other teams that may offer him more.

One possibility could be a return to the Houston Rockets, who reportedly want to pursue a reunion with the player. Since his trade to Brooklyn in 2020-21, Harden has not found his place, and his subsequent request to be traded to the Sixers has resulted in further playoff disappointments.

Harden scored only 22 points on 7-of-27 shooting as the Sixers lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals. Despite his underwhelming performance and declining skills, teams are still willing to pay him $50 million annually. However, the Sixers do not have many options other than to offer him this contract, especially if the Rockets’ interest continues to drive up his price.
