Blazers Eyeing Massive Trade Package for ‘Elite’ Player
In the NBA Draft Lottery, the Portland Trail Blazers were lucky enough to secure the third pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, giving them a valuable trade chip to work with in building around Damian Lillard, after they missed out on Victor Wembanyama.
The team is expected to take a win-now approach instead of resetting for the future, as the Western Conference seems more wide open next year with the Golden State Warriors facing uncertainty, the Los Angeles Lakers’ core aging, and the Memphis Grizzlies’ franchise star being suspended. The Trail Blazers are reportedly shopping a trade package of Anfernee Simons and the third overall pick to land an elite small forward, according to John Hollinger of The Athletic.
Though there are no specific trade targets mentioned, three potential options include DeMar DeRozan of the now-rebuilding Chicago Bulls, Paul George of the chaotic Los Angeles Clippers, and Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets, who could be a costly acquisition but the best option for the team.
