The day before his major upset victory against Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia failed a drug test, testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
However, the 25-year-old boxing sensation is vehemently denying the allegations.
According to boxing journalist Mike Coppinger, Garcia underwent testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on April 19, just ahead of the Haney bout, and was found to have Ostarine in his system.
Ostarine is known to promote muscle growth and enhance strength.
“”Everybody knows that I don’t cheat.” Ryan Garcia speaks out after testing positive for PED in Devin Haney fight.”
“Everybody I came on here to address this bull f***ing s**t claim that I cheated,” Garcia said, continuing, “Everybody knows that I don’t cheat.”
“Why didn’t they come out with this before the fight? Why would they let me step into the ring as a cheater and come out with the victory and then post this?” Garcia asked.
Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, was reportedly furious following the news.
“You trying to hurt my baby. We played it fair. We didn’t do it like that. F**k boxing, this is some bulls**t. I came from the streets. You scared of Devin on a level playing field? I feel f**ked up over this. If you can brag about doing it, you shouldn’t be on drugs.”
Garcia does have the ability to ask VADA to test a second sample (B sample) that was collected the day before the fight.
